Hermann Göring

Hermann Wilhelm Göring, 1893-1946.  Nazi Reichsmarshall; Luftwaffe commander-in-chief.  Brown ink signature dated by Göring, Hermann Göring 1945, framed with a portrait.

This is a nice, full signature of Göring dated the year World War II ended.  Göring commanded the Luftwaffe and became second in Nazi Germany to only Adolf Hitler himself.  The Allies captured him on May 9, 1945, the day after Germany surrendered.  He was imprisoned in Nuremburg, where he was tried for and convicted of war crimes and crimes against humanity.  The international military tribunal sentenced him to be hanged, but he escaped execution by committing suicide on October 15, 1946, shortly before the Allies could carry out the sentence, by ingesting cyanide from a vial that he had managed to hide.

This signature is on a brown card or slip of paper measuring approximately 2" x 3¼".  A small stain affects the first two letters of Göring's last name.  The signature is handsomely double matted in black and white with a portrait photograph of Göring with his marshal's baton and is framed in a silver wood frame to an overall size of  9¼" x 14¼".  We have not examined the signature out of the frame, but it appears to be in fine condition.

The framed piece is too large for our scanner.
